Meade LX850 130mm ED APO Refractor
|
|
|
Outline
|
The Meade LX850™ with StarLock™ has been designed from the ground up to be the
ideal astro-imaging platform. Drawing on over 39 years of experience and innovation,
Meade Instruments introduces the latest in a long line of advanced astronomical
products: the LX850. Using revolutionary new technology, every aspect of this
amazing telescope system has been designed to deliver the new standard in
astrophotographic and visual performance.
|
|
|
130mm 3-element ED APO Refractor
|
Meade's Series 6000 3 element air-spaced f/7 apochromatic refractor has a
130mm diameter (5.1") fully multi-coated triplet objective lens is from the highest
quality ED (extra-low dispersion) glass for outstanding contrast and sharpness as well
as near zero detectable chromatic aberration or "colour fringing". Featuring a super
precise dual speed 3" Crayford focuser with 10:1 gear reduction for ultra fine focus
control.
|
|
|
 |
The Meade LX850 series.
|
For crisp wide-field observing and imaging, few optical designs match the performance
of a true triple-element apochromatic refractor. This is especially true in
astrophotography. Meade Series 6000 ED Triplet APO refractors compete head-to-head with
the world's premium APOs at a fraction of the cost.
Expert observers will be delighted by the virtual absence of colour fringing around
objects and the scope's textbook-perfect pinpoint star images. Even beginners will
notice the extra high contrast and breathtaking wide-field views of a Series 6000 ED
APO. Each scope includes a Meade enhanced 2" diagonal with a 99% reflectivity mirror
and a hard carrying case.
A Series 6000 ED APO is the ideal companion for your larger Schmidt-Cassegrain,
Advanced Coma Free, or Newtonian telescope. When piggybacked, a Series 6000 ED APO
is the perfect guide scope that doubles as spectacular wide-field photography scope
when guided by the primary instrument.

Key Features
|
- True ED Apochromatic Triplet. A true triplet optical design guarantees the textbook colour corection you should expect from a premium APO.
- Premium ED Glass. For unsurpassed colour correction, brightness, and clarity, the Series 6000 APOs uses premium FPL53 (80mm) and FK61 (115mm & 130mm) Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass.
- Fast Focal Ratio. At f/6 (80mm), and f/7 (115mm and 130mm), these scopes are tailor-made for wide field astrophotography.
- Air-Space Objective Lens. The precision air-spaced triple element ED objective lens focuses red, green, and blue wave lengths to the same exact focal point.
- Fully-Multicoated Lenses. Meade broadband multicoated lenses ensure maximum light transmission.
-
Machined Aluminum Dual Speed Crayford Focuser. A superior focuser means smooth and repeatable focusing with no image shift. Every Meade Series 6000 ED Triplet APO includes a zero iamge-shift 10:1 dual speed crayford focuser, giving you the fine focus you want for super sharp visuals and images.
The 80mm APO features a large 2" diameter focuser, while the 115mm and 130mm telescopes include an incredible 3" diameter focuser allowing a wide range of accessories.
- Enhanced 2" Diagonal. All Series 6000 ED APO telescopes include an enhanced 99% reflectivity slip-fit diagonal.
- Fully-Extendable Dew Shield. An essential accessory built into the telescope, protecting it from dew build up and stray light.
- Cradle Rings and Mounting Bracket. Allows mounting on a wide variety of Meade and non-Meade German Equatorial Mounts and most photo tripods.

LX850 Series - StarLock™
|
StarLock — the heart of the LX850 — is the revolutionary new technology that makes
target acquisition and ultra-precise guiding corrections a snap. StarLock is an
integrated two-camera sensor array that provides four primary functions.
Full-Time Automatic Guide Star Selection and Auto-Guiding - Any time the telescope
is slewed to a target, StarLock automatically identifies a suitable guide star as
faint as 11th magnitude and locks on. Once locked on, the StarLock will provide
guide corrections until you slew to another target or turn it off. It’s all automatic.
And unlike standard autoguiders that issue guide corrections in the form of speed
and time, the StarLock speaks directly with the motor controllers providing specific
commands. The result is more accurate and faster guide corrections.
|
|
|
Ultra-Precision Pointing – StarLock uses its two cameras to refine pointing to an
incredible accuracy of one arc-minute, which ensures the object you select will end
up on your imaging sensor, a must of those faint objects you can not see visually
to confirm position.
Drift Alignment Assist – After alignment, StarLock uses its two cameras to automatically
select and GOTO two candidate stars then uses its 80mm f/5 guiding optic to snap a
30 second exposure. The telescope then calculates the distance it the mount must be
adjusted to be precisely aligned to the celestial pole and then moves the optical tube
the calculated distance so you can re-center the candidate star using the altitude and
azimuth controls on the mount head. This dramatically speeds up the drift alignment process.
Lightswitch Alignment – Borrowing from our award-winning Lightswitch line of telescopes,
the LX850 and StarLock can select and automatically center alignment stars using its two
cameras, thereby taking the guesswork out of alignment.
