Meade LX90 10" ACF without tripod
Outline
For the truly discerning astronomer who will not tolerate anything but the very best,
there is Meade's Advanced Coma-Free (ACF) optical system. ACF takes all of the features
of the SC models and then ups the ante. With it's technologically superior optical
design, ACF gives a flatter, coma-free field of view with pinpoint images all the way
to the edge of the field, rivaling Ritchey-Crétien performance at a fraction of the cost.
ACF is the perfect solution for the serious astroimager or visual astronomer looking
for observatory-class optics.
Meade’s (Advanced Coma-Free™) optics deliver stunning Ritchey-Chretien performance at a Schmidt Cassegrain price.
GPS
LX90 can do more than track satellites. It talks to them as well. Turn it on
and the built-in Sony® GPS sensor immediately determines your precise date, time and
location. AutoAlign™ then uses this info to align your scope for a tour of the most
spectacular sights in the universe.
Easy Align™
LX90s are smart scopes that know the night sky right out of the box.
Easy Align picks two alignment stars for you and places them right in your viewfinder.
Just center them to fine tune your alignment and the wonders of the universe are at your
fingertips.
Oversized Primary Mirror
Only Meade manufactures their primary mirrors in diameters larger than their listed
aperture (e.g. the diameter of the 8" LX90’s primary mirror is actually 8.25"). This
additional 1/4" yields a wider, fully illuminated field-of-view, and allows you to see
the light other telescopes leave behind.
8 X 50 Viewfinder
Quickly and easily locate and center deep sky objects.
Slew Speed
The LX90 slews (moves) from star to star at 7 degrees per second. That is more than
twice as fast as the competition. This means that over the course of an evening, a Meade LX90
will show you two to three times more objects.
Rigid Cast Aluminium Fork Mount
The Meade LX90's Optical Tube Assembly is mounted on two sturdy fork arms giving you a
rock solid platform for astrophotography.
Tripod
This LX90 does not include a tripod. It can be installed on a pier.
Smart Drive™
Meade’s AutoStar® provides Periodic Error Correction (in polar mode). Over
the course of one or more training periods your LX90 will minimize guiding
corrections during long exposure astrophotography.
AudioStar Handbox
The AudioStar controller provides all of the telescope control functions of the previous AutoStar handboxes
but adds unique Astronomer Inside digital audio software and a speaker built into the AudioStar body that
can provide you with more than four hours of fascinating and professionally-recorded audio descriptions of
the objects you are observing. With Astronomer Inside technology, everyone around your telescope can listen
and learn about more than 500 of the celestial objects contained in the AudioStar database, including planets,
nebulas, star clusters, the Moon, and much more. Astronomer Inside puts the experience and astronomical
knowledge of a professional astronomer in the palm of your hand.
Included in the AudioStar’s database are all of the following 30,000+ astronomical objects and stars –
a range of objects certain to keep even the most active amateur astronomer growing in his or her studies of
the skies for years:
- the complete Index Catalog (IC), containing 5,386 galaxies, nebulas, and star clusters of all types;
- the complete New General Catalog (NGC), containing 7,840 galaxies, nebulas, and star clusters of all types;
- the complete Messier catalog of 110 Messier (M) objects, the best-known catalog of heavenly showpieces for the amateur astronomer;
- the 109 objects of the Caldwell Catalog, a new listing of the best objects for small telescopes that expands the Messier catalog;
- 16,800 stars from the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) catalog, including double stars, variable stars, and other stars of special note;
- 50 Earth-orbiting satellites, 26 asteroids (including all of the brightest asteroids), 15 periodic comets, and the 8 major planets from Mercury to Pluto.
With a talking AudioStar plugged into your Meade scope, the astronomical universe is in the palm of your
hand. Never before has such powerful telescope technology been so informative and easy to operate, even by
the most casual observer.
