The Opticstar ARC-102S is a 102mm aperture F/6.6 achromatic refractor with high quality optics that is ideal
for general use. The ARC-102S can be used for planetary, Lunar and Solar observing with an appropriate
Solar filter as well as for deep sky and terrestrial observation due to its wide field of view.
Optical Design
The ARC-102S uses a high quality objective consisting of two Low Dispersion (LD) Crown/Flint lenses,
the lenses are fully anti-reflection multi-coated for increased contrast and sharpness. The LD objective
in conjunction with a shorter focal ratio makes the telescope well suited for wide field deep sky and
terrestrial viewing and imaging.
Construction
The optical tube has been internally anti-reflection coated and benefits from knife-edge baffles in the
focuser tube that reduce stray light from reaching the focal plane thus increasing image contrast and
sharpness. The optical tube assembly has a dew shield that also protects the lenses from condensation
forming on the objective when the telescope is used in unfavourable conditions.
The telescope’s 2" rack & pinion focuser has a millimetre scale to aid with focusing and repositioning,
in addition the focuser has brass compression rings to better secure and not scratch accessories. It comes
with a 1.25" eyepiece adapter so it will accommodate both 2" and 1.25" eyepieces and other accessories.
In addition the 1.25" adapter has a T-thread on its end that will enable the use of T-threaded Accessories
including DSLR cameras, filter-wheels etc. A high quality single–piece cradle with a carry-handle is used to
lift and mount the telescope.
The telescope has a Vixen/Skywatcher type dovetail and will mount on most
astronomical mounts including the Opticstar EQ700 and EQ13000 GT. The carry-handle has been designed so as
to enable the user to attach a DSLR, guide-scope or other accessories without the need of side by side
platforms or similar, thus reducing the total weight, cost and possibly the need for a heavier mount.
Accessories
The ARC-102S comes with a 6x30mm finder scope and bracket. A 1.25" diagonal, and 25mm Plossl eyepieces
are also included. Optionally a 25% transparency Moon filter is recommended as is a 3.5-4mm eyepiece
for high power viewing. For terrestrial observation an optional prism diagonal is required.
Bundled accessories.
