Outline
The Opticstar AZ80 GOTO has been designed to be an affordable, fully featured, entry level computerized telescope. The AZ80 GOTO only takes a few minutes to set up and is ideal for beginners or as a travel telescope.

You will be able to see the Moon’s craters, Jupiter and its four Moons, Saturn and its rings, Mars, Venus as well as some of the brighter deep sky objects like the Orion Nebula, the Pleiades, the Double Cluster (NGC 884 & NGC 869, The Beehive Cluster, The Lagoon Nebula, the Andromeda Galaxy, comets and other interesting deep sky objects.

The complete telescope consists of three main parts, a pre-assembled adjustable steel tripod, mount-head and optical tube. It only takes a few minutes to assemble or disassemble the telescope, no tools are required. The telescope can also be operated on a table without the included tripod making it exceptionally portable. It could easily fit in a medium sized rucksack and is light enough to carry in this manner.

The mount has built–in handset and eyepiece holders making such accessories easier to use and locate in the dark. A built-in handle also makes the handling of the telescope easier.

GOTO handset and eyepieces
The compass, GoTo Handset and two eyepieces are bundled with the telescope.

Optics
This 80mm refractor will capture 30% more light and resolve 11% more detail than a similar 70mm telescope. The AZ80 GOTO telescope has a focal length of 400mm (f/5) with multi-coated optics for increased image brightness. It is well suited for wide field views of the night sky and will obtain magnifications of x40 and x16 with the bundled 10mm and 25mm eyepieces.

Optional useful accessories would include a 25% transparency Moon filter to reduce the glare of the Moon. A 4mm-5mm eyepiece would deliver higher magnifications (x80-x100). Alternatively a x2 barlow lens in conjunction with the bundled eyepieces would offer a total of four magnifications i.e. x 16, x32, x40 & x80).

Telescope Control
The AZ80 GOTO is controlled by a modern computerized handset with a large illuminated display showing seven lines of information instead of the usual two found in earlier designs. The larger display makes aligning and controlling the telescope more satisfying and rewarding as you do not need to scroll through screens to get to the information you require.

Once the telescope has been aligned any night sky object can be selected from the built-in database, at the touch of a button the mount will automatically slew and track the object making locating and observing targets straight forward.

Powering the Telescope
The AZ80 GOTO is powered by 8 AA (user supplied) batteries or an optional mains regulated 12VDC 1A power adapter (AZGT-12 Power Adapter). An internal battery compartment eliminates power cable wrap issues associated with external battery packs.

Easy Star Alignment
The advanced Opticstar AZGT hand controller makes aligning and using the telescope straight forward. There is no need to be able to know any of the stars in the night sky to align the AZ80 GOTO. Simply use the supplied bubble level and compass to level and point the telescope North. Then simply follow the instructions on the handset’s screen to complete alignment. The whole process only takes a few minutes.
